The History of Tick Spray

When we are talking about pest control, we cannot forget about ticks. These insects can cause a lot of problems when they are not treated properly. Ticks can cause diseases to some animals, such as cows, sheep, dogs, cats, etc. Many people are trying to find the best way for eliminating ticks from their properties. One of the most effective products for removing ticks is the tick spray. This product works by binding some chemical receptors in the tick’s body. As a result, ticks are going to lose their ability to smell after they are exposed to this tick spray. This product has already been helping people for decades.

The practice of intensive tick control was started in Africa. Many African people used tick spray for protecting their exotic cattle breeds. In the beginning, many African countries enforced the use of this tick spray through legislation. Since then, tick-related diseases have been spread over the world. Many countries have problems with ticks, including the United States. The incident in the United States first occurred in the town of Lyme. This disease was well-known as Lyme disease. It was caused by the bacteria that is now commonly known as Borrelia burgdorferi.

In the mid-1970s, some children developed certain symptoms, including aches and fever. They were diagnosed to have juvenile arthritis. However, their parents were still searching for an explanation from their kids’ diseases. Finally, Allan Steere, a doctor from Yale, found out that the children suffered from a dangerous infectious disease. The research was continued by the Willy Burgdorfer. He was an entomologist from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. He discovered the corkscrew-shaped bacteria from the black-legged ticks. Because of his finding, the bacteria was named after him. The bacteria was called Borrelia burgdorferi.

Since then, the disease has already spread very quickly. New York and some other northeastern states started to recognize some new infections among their citizens. This situation also happened in Wisconsin, California, Virginia, and even around the border into Canada. Today, we can find a lot of people who are suffering from Tick diseases. More than 30,000 people are suffering from Tick disease in the United States every year. The most common symptoms of tick include fatigue, aches, fever, heart arrhythmia, arthritis, etc.

Integrated Tick Control

Many experts recommend the use of integrated tick control for eliminating ticks from the property. They recommend the use of several tick removal procedures at the same time, to achieve the best result. It is a good idea to use the best tick repellent for eliminating ticks from your place. Intensive spraying is very effective to reduce the number of ticks.

A regular tick spraying schedule is required in the integrated tick control practice. Some people also add the use of tick-repellent grasses or plants in their integrated tick control management procedures. Some of these plants, such as Melinis multiflora, Cassia absus, and Stylosanthes species, can produce a certain aroma that can repel ticks completely.

Don’t forget to evaluate the overall tick control procedure in your place. This evaluation process is very effective to help you find the right procedure for repelling ticks. When it is necessary, you can also create some corrective actions for solving some problems when doing any procedures.

Habitat Modification

This is another recommended method for eliminating ticks effectively. Ticks are very susceptible to desiccation. They love staying in a place with high ground-level humidity. This humidity may come from the dead and decaying vegetation. Some experts believe that removing this vegetation can reduce ground-level humidity. As a result, this strategy can reduce the survival of ticks on the ground. Habitat modification can also be done by installing mulch between path or around the heavily tick-infested area.

Wide-Range of Acaricides

When you look around yourself, you can find many different types of acaricides. These products are very effective to kill any ticks quickly. Some popular acaricides can be used to kill ticks, for example, synthetic chemicals, natural chemicals, and fungal agents. The synthetic chemicals ay include pyrethroid pesticides or carbamates. One example of natural acaricide is nootkatone. If you want to use fungal agents for killing ticks, you can use both Metarbizium brunneum and Beauveria bassiana strains.
